Introduction

We cherish this planet and reside here with billions of dreams. This is our only home, the only one that can support our life right now and we have been causing damage to the earth with unsustainable practices, and we have to prevent this as soon as possible.
Sustainable world

Problems caused by waste

There are around 8.7 million estimated species worldwide. According to the World Population Review, It has been concluded that, Since 1950, human beings have produced more than 8 billion tons of plastic, more than 50% of which went straight to landfills. Sadly, only about 9% of all plastic waste ever produced was recycled. Our market researchers have discovered ways to improve the way we live. Humanity has taken great leaps in science, medicine, and technology, making the life of every individual around the world much easier. However, this comes with a huge cost. According to The World Counts, ecosystem destruction is already happening and the consequences are only going to get worse.25% of all coral reefs worldwide have disappeared, and it is expected that another 60% more will be gone in 30 years. This is terrible!
The ecosystem of the world has been constantly destroyed and polluted with landfills of waste, pesticides, and other factors that contribute such as deforestation.
Many of the water sources are polluted with waste and have depleted every natural resource or made them completely extinct. Adding to that, microplastics are still found in the soil, fruits, vegetables, and in the deepest part of the oceans.
According to a research investigation conducted by the United Nations Environment Program, on a global scale, one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute. In contrast, up to five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year. This study also concluded that 36% of all plastics produced are used in packaging, including single-use plastic products for food and beverage containers. 85% of these end up in landfills or as unregulated waste.
These get converted into microplastics which creates harm to sustainability and the environment where all live in. Panda Organization also confirmed this by adding that, in the year 2019 individuals on average could be ingesting approximately 5 grams of plastic every week. This is the equivalent weight of a credit card. Can you imagine?
The analysis suggests that people consume about 100,000 tiny pieces of plastic – or 240 grams – yearly. Municipal waste is defined as waste comprising packaging (including separately collected municipal packaging waste), household waste, and similar commercial, industrial and institutional waste. This includes among others; paper and cardboard, glass, biodegradable waste, plastics, metals, and textiles.
The European Union has mandated that by 2025, all member states must recycle above 55% by weight. By 2030, these recycling rates must be 60% and 65% by 2035.
Specifically, member states shall set up separate collections of at least paper, metal, plastic, and glass. And by Jan 1st, 2025, for textiles. They also must ensure the establishment of sorting systems for construction and demolition waste of at least wood, mineral fractions (concrete, bricks, ceramics, etc.), metal, glass, plastic, and plaster.
However, less than 10 of these countries will actually achieve this 2025 mandate, leading to EU infringement procedures and fines for each country not following the mandate.

How to prevent the damage done?

It is too late to prevent the damage which has already been done. But you can prevent a greater extent with the help of our sustainability researcher.
Our waste management engineers and AI Robotics experts can help your business control waste by reducing, reusing, and recycling.
At PLAEX we can help your business drastically with brilliant Artificial Intelligence Technology that incorporates and makes use of AI with automatic waste sorting bins.
There are around 35 startups that are working on sustainability making the earth a better place for future generations. Through our simple steps, you can start by making a difference in the world.
Here are 5 simple steps which can bring you closer to the recycling process
1) Meet Garby Garby the garbage bin is a smart bin that uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and a proprietary mechanical design, to identify, classify, and sort waste, ensuring high material purity and recycling.
Its mechanical design and AI algorithm is flexible to adjust to varying client requirements for what they want sorted and how many streams they need.
Currently, Garby sorts 4 streams and these are as follows:
  • Plastic Metal & Drink cartons (PMD)
This includes Plastic packaging material, Metal/Cans, and Drink cartons.
This can collectively be disposed of in the PMD bin
The following includes a list of a few examples of PMD waste:
Plastic packagingMetal packagingDrinks carton
BottlesTin cansTetra packs
ContainersAluminum traysMilk cartons
Hard plastic packagingDrinks canBeer cartons
TraysAerosols from food and cosmeticsJuice box
Plastic warps
Once sorted, these wastes become new raw materials for the recycling industry.

  • Paper
The paper waste can include the following
NewspapersMagazinesCardboard
Any other form of paper which is free of contaminated matter and is capable of being recycled.
  • Organic waste:
Organic waste, also known as biodegradable waste, is produced mainly from living organisms, either plants or animals. The following includes a list of examples include
Food wastehuman wastesewagemanure
slaughterhouse wastegreen wastebiodegradable waste
  • Residual waste:
Residual waste mainly entails Waste that cannot be handed in separately and is allowed in the residual waste (the gray wheelie bin or garbage bag). Think, for example, of diapers, cat litter, coffee cups, and a broken wine glass. These products cannot be recycled and are sent to a waste-to-energy plant.
  • Adaptation to sort different streams of solid waste.

2) Sit Back And Let Garby Handle Your Business Waste
In this step, you will finally leave the painstaking and tedious task of sorting the garbage to Garby.
Our AI Mechanical Robotics engineers designed her in order to be your assistant and finish this task of sorting the waste into 4 categories which were discussed earlier.
3) Garby Will Always Keep You Updated And Informed
When even one of the compartments is full, you will get a notification from our smart automated AI bin, Garby And she will show you by lighting up which bin is full or not.
If the compartment is not full, sit back and relax and let Garby do your work.
4) Allow Garby To Separate And Store The Waste
Once the compartments are completely filled collect the waste separately and discard them properly. Please don't mix them.
5) Allow us to suggest you sorted waste disposal
Once you have collected the sorted waste you need a place to discard them. Don't worry, we can aid you to have a solution to all your waste-related problems.
These small steps can be a huge leap for protecting our earth. Joining hands for growing and working together for better earth for a better future.
Joining hands in order to create a sustainable planet together
